It was a busy weekend for Customs and Border Protection offices along the Texas Border. Both Laredo and Eagle Pass officers encountered and arrested suspects wanted for offenses involving crimes against children.
CBP Officers Apprehend a Man in Possession of Child Pornography
LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers this weekend at Laredo Port of Entry apprehended a male traveler in possession of child pornography.
“Our frontline officers again maintained their vigilance and apprehended a man with child pornographic material,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “The heinous nature of the material and those victimized in its production underscores and illustrates the important work of our officers in keeping our communities safe.”
On Sunday, March 31, CBP officers at Juarez-Lincoln Bridge referred a male Mexican citizen driving a 2014 Chevrolet Aceo for secondary inspection. During secondary examination, CBP officers found the subject in possession of child pornographic material discovered within his personal belongings. The driver was arrested, and Homeland Security Investigations special agents are investigating the case.
CBP Officers Apprehend Man Wanted on Felony Warrant for Child Sex Offense
EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Eagle Pass Port of Entry apprehended a man wanted on a felony warrant for a child sex offense.
“CBP works closely with our law enforcement partners to apprehend fugitives from justice,” said Port Director Pete Beattie. “Partnership among law enforcement agencies is critical in protecting our communities.”
On Sunday, March 31, CBP officers at Camino Real International Bridge referred driver Jose Fidel Romero Puente, 53, a lawful permanent U.S. resident, for secondary inspection. During the secondary examination, CBP officers, utilizing biometric verification and federal law enforcement databases, verified his identity and discovered that he was the subject of an outstanding felony arrest warrant for a sex offense against a child-fondling issued by Travis County Sheriff’s Office in Austin, Texas. CBP officers turned Romero Puente to Maverick County Sheriff’s Office to adjudicate the warrant.
The National Crime Information Center is a centralized, automated database designed to share information among law enforcement agencies, including outstanding warrants for various offenses. Based on information from NCIC, CBP officers have previously arrested individuals wanted for homicide, escape, money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, sexual child abuse, fraud, larceny, and military desertion. Criminal charges are merely allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
