OPINION: From the Editor

Yitzhak ben Moshe, Editor/Reporter, New Mexico

Please Note: While this piece does relate events that have happened, this piece is not to be considered news. This piece is the editor’s opinion and, as such, contains his opinion.

History has begun to repeat itself, as it often does—less than 100 years for history to repeat. Many are beginning to draw comparisons between today, 2024, and 1939.

We are beginning to hear “Heil Hitler” and see Nazi salutes in public spaces. The Nazi salute became so prevalent in Australia that the government felt the need to outlaw the salute.

In Florida, the neo-Nazi groups Blood Tribe and Goyim Defense League held a rally on September 2, 2023, in Orlando, Florida. Black flags with white swastikas, chants of “Heil Hitler,” and the Nazi salute were seen.

Even where I live, a small city in Southern New Mexico, we have seen incidents of hate, minor as they are. If we do not stand up to such small things, when hate begins to rear its ugly head, we will find it quickly growing out of control.

Between 1933 and 1939, Jews were banned from entering public places. Signs went up saying Jews were not allowed. In 2024, we see the same thing again.

In Switzerland, a ski shop said there were no skis for Jews. A Belgian café posted a sign on their shop windows saying, “No Jews Allowed.” As far back as 2022, in the United States, a Tennessee adoption agency turned away a couple because they were Jewish.

Remember Robert Ransdell? He ran for the U.S. Senate against McConnell. One of his signs: “With Jews, We Lose.”

The names of Jewish people are being gathered and published, as we’ve seen in Australia. Palestinian activists doxed hundreds of Jewish artists in Australia. This could, sadly, happen anywhere in the world. Just the fear of such happening stifles our ability to change.

We’ve written about a petition, as an example, to hold TikTok accountable for removing content from Jewish creators and media sites while amplifying hate across their platform. Several comments in our social media streams say they would like to sign, but they don’t want to end up on a list somewhere, making it easier to be targeted.

Around the world, within peaceful communities and neighborhoods, we see reports of Jewish homes being marked with the Mogan David, or antisemitic graffiti. And when we speak out and bring it to the general public’s attention, we are accused of playing the victim.

We hear people chanting for a solution: “There is only one solution – intifada revolution.” We’ve listened to such cries before. Only last time, they were more open about the final solution.

There is also the problem with Kappos among us. These self-hating Jews cheer on their destruction, thinking nothing about a Jewish future or the harm they are causing. This Rabbi from Neturei Karta is teaching a generation of Jews that we have no right to a homeland. The way the media and the left grab ahold of these Kappos as if they represent all of us is foolish.

As we stand at this crossroads, we have a decision to make. We must stand up for ourselves. We must not let others control our fate, our destiny. We must overcome.

Here, at the Jerusalem Press, we must wonder where groups like the Anti-Defamation League are. Why are they not more visible in their fight for Jewish rights? Where is the Simon Wiesenthal Center and their pursuit of Justice? Why are we seemingly alone in this fight?

Why are we seemingly alone?

We must come together. We must learn to defend ourselves. We must take our future into our own hands and drive our destiny. Let’s not wait until it’s too late. Let us know what you and your community are doing so that we may share it with others. Reach us at [email protected]
