Chizuk

Dahlia Raz, Special to the Jerusalem Press

We love social media. We can always find something to make us laugh when we are down in the dumps. When we are overly happy, there’ll always be something to drag us down to reality.

Then there are the posts that never fail to give us strength. We came across such a post on Sunday.

Dahlia Raz, on Threads, said that she is creating a series of Jewish Chizuk (strength) to share with the world.

“If you could use some Chizuk right now,” wrote Dahlia, “follow along.”

Chizuk # 1

Think of an ancestor who was strong! It could be a great-grandparent or someone from the Torah.

What do you feel when you think of them? What was their story of strength? Did they survive tough things? Did they build something meaningful? Think about this ancestor and imagine them by your side and with you as you approach the world. Would they be proud of you? Would they encourage you?

When things are tough, you can go back in your mind and connect with this person.

Chizuk # 2

It is normal to be sad or feel strong feelings about what is going on right now as a Jew. Find a way to express your feelings outside of social media using other outlets. Journaling, exercising, art, singing, and listening to Jewish/Israeli music.

Find ways to release and acknowledge your feelings.

Chizuk # 3

Judaism and how we practice it is a spectrum. Do not feel discouraged to not try out a Mitzvah because you “can’t do everything.” There are 613 Mitzvahs, and no one can do them all. Find Mitzvahs you connect to ✡️ every Mitzvah puts light into the world 💙

Chizuk # 4

You are needed. If you are here on earth as a human, it’s because you have something the world needs from you. There are so many ways to help in the world both big and small. What are skills you have and how can you use them to make the world a better place? There are so many ways to do this.

We hope she continues to create these posts and that we can all find strength in them. This is a hard time for Jews everywhere. Let’s build each other up, just as Dahlia Raz has helped us.

Why not give her a follow? The next Chizuk she posts might just be what you need.
